ALBANY, GA (WALB) - City leaders decide to wait to vote on a resolution publicly opposing a proposed natural gas pipeline.
Tuesday night, they tabled the issue. The Sabal Trail pipeline would go through Dougherty County and not the city. So city leaders say they'll wait and follow the lead of the county commission.
"There were some letters that had already been written, that I signed in conjunction with or in support of the County," said Mayor Dorothy Hubbard, Albany Mayor. "So that's why there was no point in doing a resolution at this point."
Mayor Hubbard says she did write a letter along with the county expressing opposition to the proposed pipeline.
If it gets federal approval, the nearly 500-mile long pipeline would run from Alabama through South Georgia to central Florida.
