VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - A Cook High School student is now officially charged with carrying a weapon on a school premesis.
Investigators took out the warrant Thursday against 17 year-old Austin Guthrie, who remained in the Cook County Jail Thursday night. Deputies said Guthrie ran from the school cafeteria Wednesday morning when they confronted him just after 7 a.m.
They caught Guthrie in the student parking lot with a loaded .22 caliber pistol in a bag. Guthrie's grandmother alerted the school earlier Wednesday morning that her grandson was upset with his girlfriend and may try to bring a gun to school.
WALB reached out to Guthrie's grandmother Thursday, but she declined to comment.
