LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Lee County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested four men and one woman in connection with a burglary on 3rd Road near Stocks Dairy Road Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff's investigators said guns and handcuffs were stolen from the home. Authorities have not released the names of those arrested.
"It's very unusual because we don't normally have any trouble like this in this area of the county. Especially in broad daylight," said Major Keith Houston with Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Mack Haynes, who lives there, said it happened while he was out running an errand.
"I come back and my buddy up the street was saying I'd been robbed," said Haynes.
The thieves made off with nearly a dozen guns, but authorities found the rifles and pistols in the woods, across the street from the home.
"A lot of times people will burglarize something in daylight," said Houston. They'll take the items, they'll hide them in the woods and come back later at night and try to pick them back up when it's not as obvious."
A neighbor saw the suspects coming out of the house with the weapons and called authorities.
"There's about five or six trailers in here. If you do anything somebody sees it. They going to tell you," said Haynes.
"We happened to have a deputy that was pretty close in the area when the call came in, and he was able to apprehend one of the subjects," said Houston.
That suspect was taken into custody just a few blocks away.
A short time later deputies nabbed the other suspects during a traffic stop.
Haynes believes he knows one of the suspects, and believes he was targeted.
Deputies were able to recover eight out of the nine guns that were stolen.
