A new program launched by Governor Nathan Deal aims to keep ex-cons on the right path and out of prison. State Officials say 25% of people released from state prisons return to prison.
Stakeholders in the Georgia Prison Reentry Initiative came together today to start planning ways to prepare Dougherty County prisoners for life outside of prison.
The goal is to have them come out able to work and provide for themselves.
"We want to make sure that we do everything and make sure that they have all the resources necessary to come out and be successful, productive citizens in the community," said Dougherty County Reentry Co-Chair Marcus Scott.
Dougherty County is one of 6 counties statewide testing this program.
