MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) - Mitchell County investigators are waiting to see how a woman wanted in their county will be prosecuted in North Carolina for soliciting someone to kill two people in Cordele.
Teresa Johnson disappeared days before her trial in Mitchell County for insurance fraud.
Two Mitchell County deputies are being honored for solving that fraud case after they say Johnson falsely claimed her boat and trailer were stolen from her mother's home.
Mitchell County Sheriff W.E. Bozeman said, “They had been nominated and selected as the head investigators of 2014 from the International Association of Marine Investigators.”
Johnson is now in custody in Swain County, North Carolina where investigators say she tried to hire someone to kill an elderly couple in Cordele.
