Thomasville City BOE will hold hearings for tax hike

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Thomasville Board of Education will hold two hearings Thursday about its proposed one-mill increase in the property tax rate.

School officials say this year's funding from the state was cut by $1.2 million.

The tax increase could make up for half of that money.

Director of Finance Dr. Daniel Oldham said, “This isn't going to any special project, any special building. It's literally going toward the quality education that we provide to the everyday student in Thomasville.”

The public hearings will be held Thursday at the school administration office at 8:15 a.m. and 6 p.m.
