COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -

One man is dead after officials say he fell off of a truck bed.

The Colquitt County Coroner confirmed that Michael Newsome, 27, died Sunday after the incident.

It happened around 11:50 p.m. Friday. Colquitt County Sheriff's deputies said they responded to the intersection of Tollokas Road and Rosencrantz where Newsome was found unresponsive in the middle of the road.

The deputy and the driver of the truck performed CPR until emergency medical crews responded.

According to the driver of the truck, Newsome fell from a cooler that he was sitting on in the bed of the truck as it was turning onto Rosencrantz.

Authorities said the tailgate of the truck was down at the time as well.

Newsome was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, where he later died Sunday.
