ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Animal lovers can give back to the Albany Humane Society in a very unique way. Local artists will be auctioning off their work to benefit the non-profit organization through Artists for Animals.

Local artists were able to construct several pieces to auction from jewelry and sculptures to paintings. All the proceeds go directly to the Albany Humane Society.

Executive Director Donna Strickland says the event is very important because it's how they are able to continue to operate and better the lives of their animals. Co-creator Steve Barber feels the event brings two great things together: the craft of visual arts and love for animals.

The first time Barber organized the event was in Destin, Florida and said it had such positive feedback he decided to bring it his hometown of Albany. "That's how we survive, through the community, through donations, fundraising, and that sort of thing," Strickland said. "This is very important, every dollar that we can earn goes towards bettering the lives of these animals."

"I mean we just out out a call and we were just overwhelmed with the support," Barber said.

He hopes to continue the project to expand to other communities. He has already planned another auction in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The event takes place Tuesday evening from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Albany Museum of Art, tickets are $30.
