ALBANY, GA (WALB) - City officials are making sure young people in the community spend more time outdoors.
The Albany Parks and Recreation Department teamed up with "Youth Becoming Healthy" for their 6th annual "Albany Family Play Day" at Tift Park. Kids competed against Marines in potato sack races, plus there was some arts and crafts activities provided by Home Depot. Organizers say it's important for kids to spend lots of time outside.
"It is so much fun, no matter how old a kid you are to get out and play, and guess what you're getting great healthy exercise while you're having a good time," said Kristin Case, Albany Parks and Recreation Department.
"It's just a fun day to get outside and play," said Pamela Jackson, Youth Becoming Healthy Founder. "It's great for families and there's no cost. They just get outside and enjoy the park."
The event is part of Nickelodeon's World Wide Day of Play. Albany has been named "Playful City USA" for the past six years.
