Body found in Crisp Co. identified by Sheriff

CRISP CO., GA (WALB) -

Crisp County Sheriff's deputies and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are looking for answers after a body was found near Veterans State Park.

Investigators are not sure if the shooting took place on Ferry Landing, or if the body was dropped near the back entrance of the park, around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The body is going to the crime lab in Macon, Sheriff Hancock said.

Armstrong's fingerprints were taken and sent to the crime lab.

The GBI and Sheriff's investigators are trying to determine where 20 year old Jasperin Armstrong was killed, but they say it's still early in the investigation.

"We have the coroner here to take the body to the crime lab to determine if our suspicious is true," said Hancock.

Around 11 a.m., a driver spotted the body by a sign and called 911. In a few hours, they figured out how the man died.

"[We] have an apparent gunshot wound to the head," he said.

The road leading to the back entrance of Veterans State Park was closed during the investigation.

"Everything that the analyst and the crime scene technician see here on the scene, we feel pretty confident we're working another homicide here in Crisp County," said Hancock.

This is the second homicide in the county this week. Ashley Garry was found shot in her home Sunday.

It's not known if the two are related.

Law enforcement is searching the area for any clues into this man's death, Investigators did not find any bullets or shell casings near the body.

Dept. of Natural Resources officials questioned visitors and workers at Veterans State Park as part of the investigation.
