AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The city of Americus received two grants to help beautify several communities.

This month they were awarded a Community Development Block Grant to complete improvements to a neighborhood close to Staley Middle School.

The second grant is a Community Home Investment Program designed to fix up low income houses.

“It will fix up 6 to 10 houses and this one will benefit an entire neighborhood and fix up some streets. On top of this, the city put in about 40 grand from the general fund,” said Ben Andrews, Community Development Director.

The CHIP grants was $306,000.00 and the block grant was 783,731. The grants were awarded by the Department of Community Affairs.
