Suspects steal guns, leave getaway truck at burglary scene

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Police are searching for the second of two burglars caught on video after they broke into a pawn shop.

The two are accused of ramming a truck into the store and stealing guns.

It happened at American Pawn and Jewelry on Monday in Americus.

"[They] ran straight through here, busted through gun cases that we had here and grabbed seven guns out of that case," said Rocky Hufstetler with the pawn shop.

Americus police said the pair was driving a car stolen from the county. Store owner Rocky Hufstetler said the suspects were quick to grab what they could, and left the store with the car still inside.

"They were in and out in 28 seconds. They didn't have a lot of time to take anything. The police response was very quick," said Hufstetler.

13 hours after the smash and grab, a 16-year-old suspect was caught. Now, Americus Police are looking for 20 year old Jarkeeys Smith. They have three warrants for his arrest, including a second degree burglary charge.

"Without the surveillance camera, they wouldn't have gotten an idea of who it is," said Hufstetler.

Broken glass and a boarded up store front shows the aftermath of the smash and grab. Hufstetler is immediately making some changes.

"Upgraded our security system, we got some barriers in the parking lot that will be added in the next day or so," he said.

Only two of the seven stolen Glock handguns were recovered by police.
