RALEIGH, Miss. (AP) - The man accused of killing his five young children and dumping their bodies off a rural Alabama road is on the way to South Carolina to face murder charges.
Before 8 a.m. Central time Thursday, 32-year-old Timothy Ray Jones Jr. was loaded into an unmarked SUV and was leaving Mississippi for South Carolina.
Smith County Sheriff Charlie Crumpton says Jones was compliant while in Mississippi and is now in the hands of South Carolina authorities. Officials there have said he will face five murder charges. His children were ages 1 to 8. He was arrested in Mississippi at a traffic checkpoint Saturday and eventually led authorities to the children's bodies in Alabama.
On Thursday, he wore a striped jail uniform and protective vest as he was escorted into the SUV. Officials also loaded up boxes of evidence for the trip to South Carolina.
