LEE CO., GA (WALB) - A 9-11 Twin Towers survivor continues his tradition of treating South Georgia first responders and military members to a free lunch.
Wednesday for the ninth year in a row, Sunel Merchant gave away lunches to real life heroes at his Philly Connection store on Ledo Road.
Merchant was on the 49th floor of the North Tower when the plane struck.
He says he will never forget the firefighters rushing up the stairwell while he went down. And this is his family's way to thank first responders and military members.
Merchant said "We are inviting them as a small Thank You for the selfless, wonderful work that they do."
Merchant says he still has nightmares, and he still wants to show appreciation for the real heroes of America.
