THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The American Cancer Society estimates one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Archbold Memorial Hospital is working to lower that number.
On Wednesday, the hospital offered free screenings at the Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center.
Doctors say screenings save lives.
Radiation Oncologist Dr. J. Steven Johnson said, "We're detecting them so early now. We're curing most all of them. And so I can state, just from a long clinical experience, that the PSA is very effective."
Age, family history, ethnicity, and overall health are some risk factors.
The screenings are part of Archbold's clinical outreach effort and will continue throughout the month.
