Tift authorities make arrests in home invasion

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -  The Tift  Co. Sheriff's Office says that Leroy Dewayne Barnes and Lilly Marie Placencia have been arrested for the September 5 home invasion and stabbing of a couple as they slept in their home on Midland Avenue. 

Tift County 911 dispatched deputies to an assault at a home in the 4100 block of Midland Avenue September 5, at approximately 4:30 a m.

The 911 got a call from a woman at the residence screaming "get off me" and the call ended. 911 said that that someone had been stabbed and robbed.

As Deputy Mark Guess turned onto Midland Avenue he saw a car leaving the residence the call came from, and he tried to stop the vehicle.

The driver ran two stop signs, and got stuck in the ditch leading to East Golden Road and had to stop. Two people jumped out and ran, but were apprehended a short distance away by deputies.

Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment of wounds from the attack.

Leroy Dewayne Barnes age 36 of Tifton is charged with burglary, aggravated assault, obstruction of officers, fleeing / attempting to elude, two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to maintain lane.

Lilly Marie Placencia 32 also from Tifton is charged with burglary, aggravated assault, and obstruction of officers.

Both are being held and no bond has been set, and additional charges may be filed.
