Valdosta gas station robbed at gun point

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta police are investigating after the Chevron gas station located at 1001 N. Patterson Street in Valdosta was robbed at gun point late Tuesday night.

According to the police report, an unknown man entered the convenience store at 9:25 p.m. with his face covered and holding a gun. A customer in the store was robbed and the suspect also got away with cash from the register. No one was hurt.

The gas station does have surveillance cameras both inside and outside the store, but Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk said that while that may deter some criminals he suggests gas stations and convenience stores go one step further and install a protective barrier at the check out counter.

"The protective barrier is probably, in my suggestion, the best deterrent to a crime. If they can't get to the cashier, then they're probably not gonna come in there and try," Kirk said.

As of Wednesday night, police had not identified a possible suspect.
