The store said in the release it will be hiring both full and part-time associates, and the majority of new associates will begin work in November to help prepare the store for its grand opening.

The new store's manager said he's pleased with the heavy traffic from applicants.

"It was a little more turnout that I expected, but we're glad for that," said store manager Duane Staggers. "[There are] more resources to check for and hopefully we'll get some good associates out of it."

The Walmart neighborhood market is set to open in the beginning of December.

Walmart also said Veterans must be within 12 months of active duty and meet Walmart's standard hiring criteria.
