French returns to hometown church

TIFTON, GA (WALB) - A Tifton church welcomes a South Georgia native back home after competing on the ABC show "Rising Star."

Austin French returned to Journey Church in Tifton where he is the worship pastor. It's his first Sunday back after competing on the new ABC show "Rising Star." French played several worship songs for the congregation. After church, they celebrated his return with a tailgate party. French says it feels good to be back home.

"This is where it all started for me," said Austin French, Rising Star contestant. "Here at Journey Church, leading worship every weekend. It's good to be back with my church family to do what feels comfortable and do what comes easy to me, which is to worship the Lord. I'm not trying to please anybody, I'm just trying to worship with my congregation, and so it's really cool."

French came in second place on the show. He's looking at different recording deals, and hopes to be picked up by a label soon.
