Downtown Albany library re-opens

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - After 20 months of renovations, Albany's downtown library is open again.

Dozens of people were downtown Saturday for the grand re-opening of the Central Library on Pine Avenue. The library has a new "teen" and study rooms, and the remodeled computer labs now have a faster internet connection. Kids got a see a special performance by a master juggler and get their face painted. The library director says there's something for everyone.

This has been a long awaited time of being able to open the Central Library," said Pauline Abidde, Library Director. "We're finally glad that it's finally here. We just want all of the community to come out and just start enjoying this beautiful new facility and all that it has to offer them."

The library hired eight new staff members. They're also offering a 25% discount on overdue fines and fees through September 10th. The Library director is also hoping that library hours will be extended.
