ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dozens of students gathered at the Flint Riverquarium Friday morning to join their 10th birthday celebration.
Over 100 butterflies were released as the Albany Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the Greathouse Butterfly Farm. Last month the Flint RiverQuarium Environmental Education Center donated butterfly kits to Dougherty County schools.
The students were able to observe the metamorphic process before their release.
"People love butterflies. The kids are having a great time and this is maybe the only time in their life to get to hand feed a butterfly. They have a wild animal on a stick right there in front of them that they can look at really close."
The butterfly tent will only be around through Sunday for the birthday celebration. There is no additional price to get into the tent.
