Flags and crosses to honor 9-11 victims

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - South Georgia veterans are preparing a memorial in Albany to honor victims of the September 11th attacks.

Members of the Marine Corps Detachment joined the American Legion to mark the grounds outside the Albany Mall.Hundreds of American flags will be placed there tomorrow morning, along with 146 white crosses to represent those who died in combat from Dougherty and surrounding counties.

"We try to keep the patriotic part of serving going and I think little things like this help the community," said Tim McClelland, veteran. "At least I hope so."

The flags will go up Saturday morning at 8 and stay there through a festival next Saturday, the 13th. A ceremony will also be held on the 11th.
