VFD kicks off its "Fill The Boot" campaign for MDA

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta Fire Department is once again raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association...and you can help.

The fire department held a ceremony Thursday at the fire station on South Oak Street in Valdosta to kick off its annual "Fill The Boot" campaign.

This is the 7-th year the department has held the event. Valdosta Fire Department Lieutenant Dereck Willis said the fire department's continued support for MDA means a lot to him.

"My son has MDA. He's in the MDA family," Willis said. "So, it's very close to my heart. I appreciate all our firemen that rally behind and help this cause."

Fire fighters will be collecting donations at the Walmart on Inner Perimmeter Road and at all of the Winn Dixies in Valdosta from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
