Raising awareness in National Preparedness Month

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Floods and tornadoes happen in south Georgia and the Department of Public health wants you prepared. September is National Preparedness Month and they're asking folks to prepare for the many types of natural disasters.

The department offers kits that contain food, water, and emergency equipment in the event of disasters. Officials want citizens to get actively involved in the prevention process.

"Making a plan, to making a kit, to being able to interact with the environment to be able to be aware of what's going on in your area. In other words, make sure you know what the authorities are saying about the situation," said Travis Donnelly of the Southwest Georgia District of the Department of Public Health.

The program is for businesses and families. You can buy your kit by visiting this website.
