The decision for Lee County to bring back volunteer firefighters to help in the Redbone District is a reasonable solution for a difficult problem - money.
Property taxes are increasing in Lee County, for the first time in almost a decade.
The volunteer firefighters, working along with their paid counterparts, will hopefully improve the fire protection rating for those in the northern end of the county.
That would mean lower insurance premiums for homeowners.
We also hope Lee County Commissioners will find money to transition these volunteer firefighters to full-time positions.
The county is large enough to support a larger fire department, and public safety is the biggest responsibility of any government agency.
