Yadkin's Aaron Church named new Rowan County Manager

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

Michael Aaron Church is Rowan County's new county manager, replacing the retiring Gary Page.

The announcement was made following a brief closed session during the Tuesday meeting of commissioners.

"Mr. Chairman, based on successful negotiations regarding the open county manager position,  I'd like to remove that we accept the offer from Mr. Aaron Church who is the current county manager of Yadkin County," announced commissioner Jon Barber.

That announcement was followed by commissioners approval.

Commissioner Mitchell recused himself from the process due to the fact that the had applied for the position.

Following approval, Commissioner Sides announced a short recess for Church to sign the contract.

Church had served as Yadkin County Manager since June of 2013, and was Deputy County Manager prior to taking the top job in Yadkin.

Church grew up in Wilkes and Surry Counties.  He graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice with minor in religion and philosophy.

Church received a  master of public administration degree in public management from ASU.

According to his biography, Church has over eight years experience in local, state and federal government.

Prior to graduate school he worked as an intern for the North Wilkesboro Police Department, and was spent one year as a consultant for the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.

Church worked as a congressional aide for the U.S. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC 5th District) for two years and has spent three years in Burke County as the Assistant to the County Manager prior to taking the job in Yadkin County.

Church and wife Erica have three children.
