ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Downtown Albany leaders are working to fix up a cluster of old empty buildings on Front Street.
Downtown Manager Sharlene Cannon says they want to recruit bakeries, coffee shops, and other retail stores that would complement each other.
Right now, they're working with a developer to rehab the buildings and secure tenants.
She says this is a good start to revitalizing downtown. "We have such gorgeous scenery here and so many visitors that the logical thing to do is start here and take these buildings. They are still good building stock and make them more attractive clean them out and then start to recruit existing businesses," said Cannon.
Red's restaurant recently opened just around the corner in the former Riverfront BBQ location.
Cannon says that's a good addition to the downtown area.
