WORTH CO., GA (WALB) - People of Worth County will have a second chance to express their thoughts on fire protection issues, some Lake Blackshear residents are demanding for full-time firefighters for their growing community. However, for other neighboring areas residents feel they aren't receiving the same level of attention and protection.
District 4 Commissioner Billy McDonald has been with the county for over a decade but was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years prior. He says understands the importance of having fire service, not just in certain communities but for the entire county. Residents in his district hope he will be able to be voice their concerns and get the protection they have been waiting years for.
He has been fighting to grab the attention of other county commissioners and community members to work together in creating an effective battle plan that meets the needs of everyone.
"I realize the importance to have fire service in your community and all. It's bad to live in an area where you don't have anything. And that's basically what we have in the south of Worth County," McDonald said.
McDonald is asking for the presence of residents to show their support. He feels this is just the beginning of several meetings to follow.
"I will not back away from it, from what I am standing up for because I feel in my heart and in my mind I'm only standing up for what's right. And the people expect me to do that," McDonald continued.
The meeting will be at 7 PM at the Worth County Courthouse located off of Main Street.
