Video shows Albany drive-by shooting

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Cameras at a convenience store caught a drive-by shooting that injured one person.

Smith's Super Value has been serving residents in the 800 block of Holloway Avenue since 1950. The store manager says the violence in the area has got to stop.

Surveillance video shows a vehicle driving through the 900 block of Holloway Avenue with people inside firing shots at 12:19 Monday morning, just five minutes later a white pickup truck is seen firing shots in the same area. The manager at Smith's Super Value says he's not worried that the recent shootings will hurt his business.

"I'm not afraid for my business,” said Julius Smith Jr., Smith's Super Value Manager. “I'm afraid for this community and these people who are crazy enough to sit up there and want to spend ten years in jail for a gun crime, for no reason at all."

Another camera angle shows the white truck speeding off near the store. Albany police say the gunmen inside the white truck drove by a home where three people were standing outside and shot 28-year-old Stanley Jones in the chest and foot. Smith says this isn't the first shooting near his store. He was involved in one two years ago.

"The guy started shooting around kids, and I went out to confront him and he started shooting at the store, and I shot back,” said Smith. “So I missed him just barely."

That incident led him to put up additional cameras outside his store. He thinks more businesses should install cameras.

"If we can all pitch in as businesses, and catch what we think might be going on we wouldn't have as much crime as we do in Albany, Ga," said Smith.

One resident says she was hanging clothes when she heard gun shots and saw two people running through her back yard. A bullet grazed the back of her home. Smith says the violence has to stop.

"It's stupid,” said Smith. “You're shooting for no reason, you're just risking yourself going to jail and missing out on having a family, having a life."

No arrests have been made. Stanley Jones remains in fair condition at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. If you have any information on the shooting call Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS.
