NEW YORK (WABC/CNN) - Three people were injured in a lightning strike on a New York City beach on Sunday.

The strike sent the Labor Day weekend crowd scattering for safety at Orchard Beach as storms rolled through Sunday evening.

Police closed the beach for safety reasons.

The three victims were alert and conscious as they were taken to the hospital, but officials have not yet given an update on their conditions.
