An Albany arts school kicked off a campaign Friday morning to get students excited about reading.
Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Arts held a pep rally at their gym to begin the Million Word Reading campaign.
The Albany High Band and cheerleaders performed for the students. Teachers say this is a great way to encourage the kids about the benefits of reading.
"If a child is not a good reader by 3rd grade, their percentage for success and for graduation drops way off. We want them to be excited all through their life," said Media Specialist Pam Roshio.
The school will be keeping a tally on a wall display of how many books and words are read by the students.
