Watch out for the other driver.... on the water

DNR Ranger Robbie Griner DNR Ranger Robbie Griner
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Authorities want to remind you to stay safe out on the waters over this Labor Day weekend.

The holiday is one of the biggest boating weekends of the year. Nearly all the Game Wardens will be out monitoring Georgia waters starting today through Monday.

DNR officials want to remind you to designate a sober driver and slow down.

"We don't have red lights or stop lights. We don't have other indicators out there showing the boaters where they can travel to. You know, there are other dangers. You know, you have the dams, floating logs and you have stumps and all of that. So you just have to be aware of your surroundings," said DNR Corporal Robbie Griner.

Here are some great boating safety tips-

Always check local weather conditions before departure

Follow a Pre-Departure Checklist

Use Common Sense

Designate an Assistant Skipper

Develop a Float Plan, and tell others

Make Proper Use of Lifejackets

Avoid Alcohol

Learn to Swim

Take a Boating Course

Consider a Free Vessel Safety Check from the US Coast Guard
