SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - Members of the Worth County middle school band and chorus learned the true meaning behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Wednesday.
They were inspired to take it on by chorus teacher Leslie Holton who lost her sister to the disease. She says it's important for students to understand the internet sensation isn't just about having fun.
"I took some time this week to explain to my students why it was important to participate with it, I had a first hand experience," Holton said. "Once they heard my story and fully understood why its important to find a cure, they really stepped it up, it really was a great turnout today."
The ALS Association announced today the viral fundraising campaign has raised more than $94 million in just over a month.
