Residents concerned about 'The Purge'

James Raines James Raines
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany residents have expressed concern of threats of a "purge."

Social media posts have suggested that groups can partake in a threatening night of violence Saturday night. It's connected to a move entitled "the Purge," in which a government program allows all crime to be legal for 12-hours. While it may all just be a hoax, Albany Police Gang Unit members tell us they have gotten anonymous tips about potential violence. They say they will be out in full force and one residents wants them to detain anybody looking threatening.

"If they are wearing gang affiliated clothes," Albany resident James Raines said. "Who is to say that you are not apart of it, just not in the midst of it right now. If they detain a person like that, that's just one less person in the activity or the crime."

If you hear anything about potential violence, you are encouraged to call crime stoppers at 436-TIPS.
