ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's now up to the Dougherty County school board to terminate two teachers named in a free lunch fraud investigation.
Yolanda Bryant and Stephanie Harvey waived their right for termination hearings.
They were given notices after the Professional Standards Commission suspended their certificates for one year.
The Lamar Reese Elementary school teachers are accused of providing false information to obtain free school meals in 2011.
"Even though they could not teach under the suspended certificate, it didn't allow them to go into a classroom, they still had a contract with the Dougherty County school system. So we have to terminate that contract," said DCSS attorney Tommy Coleman.
Board members are expected to vote on whether to terminate Bryant and Harvey at their next board meeting.
About 16 educators were named in the investigation and more suspensions could be on the way.
