Officers train in active shooter simulation

Officers with guns drawn ran through a school building Wednesday afternoon, working to bring an active-shooter situation to an appropriate end.

In this case though, the whole situation was actually a drill, and completely controlled.

The simulation Wednesday was part of a two-day session for officers to learn how to properly respond to active-shooter situations on school property. It's part of training conducted by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

Officers in the Albany sessions learned techniques and skills at the former Magnolia Elementary School.
