Americus gets new recycling plan

COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) - The Americus city council unanimously approves a new, free curbside recycling plan. A lot of people complained after they found out recyclables they were dropping off were actually going to the dump.

The council previously struck down a mandatory recycling plan that would have cost customers 2-dollars a month. The new plan is something that seems to making all sides happy.

"It ended resulting in a very positive situation where we all can recycle now on a voluntary basis, it's curbside and we're hoping to start it immediately," said Americus Chief Administrative Officer Laura Lee Bernstein.

Anyone who wants a recycling bin can put in an order with Advanced Disposal. The city's chief administrative officer now hopes to remove the large community dumpsters by Dollar General.
