Despite preparations for extreme heat, Lee County paramedics treated more than 80 people at the Westover and Lee County high school football game Saturday.

Five people, including one football player had to be taken to the hospital for heat related illnesses.

The game was suppose to kick off at 1 pm, but was moved to 9 am because of the high temperatures.

Lee County EMS Director Bobby Watkins says they've never had a heat incident of this magnitude.

"We were fortunate that we could stay on top of those 83 that we did treat there on the scene. We were able to turn them around and let them go to the game," said Watkins.

Cooling tents and misters were available for fans, who also brought umbrellas.

Lee County beat Westover, 13 to zero.
