Warnings issued along SC coast

Posted: Updated:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Hilton Head Island Shore Beach Services have put warning flags up. They are asking those who can't swim to stay out of the water.

Even though Hurricane Cristobal is more than 500 miles out, the National Weather Service says it is responsible for the rough seas and is causing more rip currents along the coast.

Officials with Shore Beach Services say they are prepared and they have staffed extra lifeguards for Tuesday.

The same thing goes for Hunting Island beach. They have put up warning flags as well. Rangers posted red flag warning on Monday for beachgoers to stay out of the water because of rip currents.

Officials say they will be monitoring the water all day Tuesday and they're prepared to act quickly if problems arise. And of course, DNR will be out in the water as well.
