ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police say they have a man in custody after a late night robbery in East Albany. Edgar Nunez was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary and False Statements on Tuesday, after Ulysses Ellis was smashed in the head.
Investigators say Edward Nunez owned and drove the getaway car used in the robbery about 12:30 Tuesday morning..
It happened on the 1100 block of Van Deman around 12:30. An officer was patrolling the neighborhood when he saw a resident and another person struggling with each other.
The officer intervened and the suspect drove off. Officials say the suspect crashed their car into a fence off of Netherlands, less than half a mile away from the original scene. The suspect then ran off.
Ulysses Ellis, 52, told APD the suspect struck him over the head and robbed him."You don't know that person, continue to talk to that person from behind a closed door. At the same time, if they are not leaving, then you are on the phone to the police department. So now we can have someone out to your home," said APD Lt. Brian Covington.
The abandoned car is a gold 2004 Nissan Maxima.
