Commissioners deny store manager alcoholic beverage license

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County commissioners deny an Alcoholic Beverage License to a woman who sold alcohol illegally.

The Owner of this Albany Express Convenience Store Sunitaben Patel originally applied for the license, but wasn't eligible because she is a resident of Lee County.

Mary Savage, a manager at one of Patel's other stores then applied.

Last year she pleaded guilty to selling to an underaged person.

People who have a misdemeanor charge within the last ten years cannot be granted a license without special approval from the commission.

“The rules are put forth for everyone to abide by and when you start making special approvals then it makes it hard to where you draw the line,” says County Commissioner Harry James.

County commissioners voted unanimously to deny the license.
