Members of a Dougherty County neighborhood watch group want the county to do more to prevent drainage problems.

Southgate Subdivision resident Willie Dawson told commissioners on Monday it's been a while since a street sweeper has been in the neighborhood.

It's one of the few areas in the county that has curbs. He says the drains get clogged up, and when heavy rain falls the roads flood.

“We had accidents out there where people hydroplaned and lost control of their vehicle and ended up in the hospital and when you have flash floods and everything that come up and water can drain properly you have a serious problem with water standing on the roadway,” says Dougherty County resident Willie Dawson.

County officials say they work with the city to get these areas cleaned and may look to buy a used street sweeper in the future.
