ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
County commissioners choose to deny an Alcoholic Beverage License for Mary Savage.
Savage is currently the manager of an Albany convenience store and in 2013 plead guilty to selling an underage person alcohol, which is a misdemeanor, and was given a 12-month suspended sentence.
Dougherty County Police Chief Jackie Battle said anyone who has had a misdemeanor within the last ten years cannot be granted an alcohol license, unless the county commission decides to give special consideration.
Commissioner Harry James said rules are in place for a reason and granting special permission for one person could open the doors for others.
"The rules are put forth for everyone to abide by and when you start making special approvals then it makes it hard to where you draw the line," said Commissioner James.
County commissioners voted unanimously to deny the license.
The owner of Albany Express Convenience store on Newton Rd was ineligible to apply, because she is a resident of Lee County.
