BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -

Family and friends are raising money for a Bainbridge man awaiting a heart transplant.

33-year-old Chris Black was rushed to Emory hospital in Atlanta today for heart complications. He's had congestive heart failure for six years and had a defibrillator for three years. Family and friends held a fishing tournament on Saturday at Lake Seminole and raised $5000.

"Oh man, to stay around and live and be a husband and be a stepfather to these boys and he loves them so much,” said Eugene McConnell, Black's Father-in-law. “It would just mean life in general, we take it for granted."

Black needs $1.3 million to receive the transplant he hopes to get in November. Family and friends are organizing several fundraisers in the future.

Fundraisers:

- Tuesday August 26th, 20% of each meal at Hardees Restaurant from 5:00 p.m. to close in Colquitt, Bainbridge and Donalsonville will go to the medical fund set up for Chris Black at People's South Bank in Colquitt.

- September 6th, A cornhole tournament will be held at D&D Lawncare on Hwy 27 in Bainbridge.

- They are also selling t-shirts for $15 in all sizes and koozies

- Family members are also in the process of setting up a Red Basket fundraiser through Woodman of the World. Woodman will match $25 for each donation from their members.
