Asburn police need help locating missing person

Ashburn police need help locating missing person

The Ashburn Police Department is asking for help locating a missing person.

Richard Wood has not been seen or heard from since August 15th.

Ashburn police say that Wood was traveling with a friend through Laurel County, Kentucky during the morning hours of August 15th when they stopped to rest. His friend awoke from sleep between 3 and 4 a.m. to find Wood was not in the vehicle.

His friend checked the area, but could not locate him. The friend found an officer in the parking lot of the rest stop and asked for help locating him.

Wood’s was arrested later that morning by The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, twelve miles from the rest stop. At approximately 5:11 a.m, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, he was arrested for criminal trespassing. He was accused of looking into a window of a home and beating on the side of the residence. When he was taken into custody he told police he was in  Sycamore, Georgia.


He was released from the Laurel County Detention Center at 4:28 p.m. The Ashburn Police Department entered him as a missing person on August 18th.

Shelters and hospitals have been contacted. Wood’s is a diabetic and is disabled. He is 57 and is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall.
