Lee County works to keep kids cool without air conditioner
LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -
Summer heat has some parents concerned about the safety of kids on school buses. Lee County is one of many south Georgia school districts without air conditioned buses.
The school system estimates the units would cost $10,000 each. With almost 100 buses, Superintendent Lawrence Walters says it's too expensive right now. The system is working to keep kids cool in this unseasonably hot weather.
"We've been providing the last several days, our students that ride a bus, we've been providing them with a bottle of water when they get on the school bus so that they have water and they're hydrated," said Dr. Walters.
Dr. Walters hopes they can add air conditioner units to buses in the next couple years.
