ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Police say a doctor at Phoebe Putney Medical Center died after his Porsche Carerra crashed late Thursday night. Rizvi was also a nephrologist at Southwest Georgia Nephrology.

According to a report, Hasan Rizvi, 51, was killed when the car crashed into a utility pole around 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of Gillionville Road in Dougherty County. The crash happened less than a mile from Rizvi's home at Hidden Lakes.

Dougherty County Police say he was traveling west when the car ran off the north shoulder of the road and hit a tree, then crashed into a pole.

Rizvi practiced in Albany for about 20 years and served as President of Phoebe Putney Hospital's medical staff and on the Albany Dougherty Hospital Authority from 2007 to 2009.

"Dr. Rizvi was not only an excellent physician and clinician, he had exceptional leadership qualities. And gave of his time," said his friend, said Dr. Steve Kitchen.

Colleagues say Dr. Rizvi's legacy will be his advocacy for his patients. He is survived by his wife and their two sons.

His funeral will be out of state, but Phoebe Putney Hospital is planning a memorial service.
