Street Sweep wanted fugitive captured in Georgia State Patrol road check

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -    One of our Street Sweep 25 Most Wanted Fugitives is now in jail, caught in a road check.

39-year old Antonio Hayes turned around at an Operation Mini Thunder road check on East Oglethorpe Boulevard about 2 Sunday morning.

 Georgia State Troopers stopped him.

Hayes was wanted for the June assault of a woman at knife point in the 400 block of South McKinley Street.

Troopers say road checks make the community safer.  Sergeant First Class Shawn Urquhart said "They get not only DUI drivers. People that don't have insurance. Suspended license. And wanted people."

Officers arrested more than 100 people for D-U-I in the weekend road checks.

Troopers say they'll do more in the future.
