Officials: Colleton Co. standoff suspect to be charged with attempted murder

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities say a man who barricaded himself inside a Colleton County home Thursday afternoon with a rifle will be charged with attempted murder following a 12-hour standoff.

On Thursday at 3:50 p.m., deputies from the Colleton County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Rum Gully Road to serve an order of detention. Once on scene, deputies say they met with a subject they believed the order of detention was for, at which point the subject pulled a rifle on the deputies.

Members of the Colleton County Sheriff's Office and SWAT were called in to surround the residence, resulting in a nearly 12-hour stand-off. The man was taken into custody by authorities at 4 a.m.

According to Lt. Amye Stivender, the suspect, who has not yet been named, will be charged with attempted murder for firing a shot into a SWAT van.

Stivender says the suspect was transported to a hospital for a mental evaluation.

Authorities say no one was injured in the incident.
