Richmond Hill Police continue to investigate shooting

RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) -

Richmond Hill Police are meeting with investigators across the area, including officials in South Carolina, after one man was shot at the Suites at the Station Exchange.

On Wednesday, police and SWAT arrested five men at the Deer Run Apartment Complex in Hardeeville, and according to Richmond Hill Police Chief Billy Reynolds, the whole thing began in Richmond Hill when several men were trying to steal a car.

The owner came out and confronted the group, and the men fled the scene after shooting the owner. Police tracked and followed the car to Hardeeville, where they found the car but no suspects.

After a short standoff, five men were found in an apartment and taken into custody and are being held in the Jasper County Jail.

Multiple detectives and police have been in Richmond Hill on Friday, using K9s to search the property here at the Suites at the Station Exchange to look for evidence.

"This is a major task. We have so many agencies involved and so much interest in this case. Obviously we want to solve our crime that happened here but we have to help the others solve their crimes as well for this to work," Police Chief Billy Reynolds said.

A meeting also wrapped up on Friday between Richomond Hill Police, SCMPD and Hardeeville Police discussing the incident. The names of the suspects have not been released and they have not yet been charged with the shooting.

All the suspects arrested on Thursday are being held on marijuana charges. Officials said four guns were found in the apartment and one gun was found near the suspects' black Dodge Charger.

The victim of the shooting is conscious and has talked to detectives.
